Orang Utan - Bukit Merah Laketown Resort

Here’s an amazing Orang Utan fact: 97% of the Orang Utan’s DNA is identical to that of a human! In fact, the name ‘Orang Utan’, when translated from Malay to English literally means ‘person of the forest’. Not surprisingly, they are extremely intelligent creatures that have the ability to think, feel and express emotion the way we do. And, you have a chance to observe these primates' behaviour up close and personal at Orang Utan Island at Bukit Merah Laketown Resort!!!

The world's first Orang Utan conservation and rehabilitation centre - Orang Utan Island at Bukit Merah Laketown Resort was set up as an Orang Utan breeding sanctuary as well as conservation, research and education center to better understand this endangered species.


At the island, you will be taken through a 100-meter steel walkthrough 'cage tunnel' to come up close and personal with these primates. In a twist, you will be enclosed in a 'cage' as you observe the Orang Utans roaming free in their natural habitats.


The island can be reached via a 10-minute boat ride from the main jetty at Marina Village. The ferry departs every 45 minutes.
